LEGEND OF THE SEEKER: DECEPTION (2009) (CARVER DUNN)

Dean guest stars as D'Haran soldier Carver Dunn in episode 17 of Legend of the Seeker. The series follows the adventures of Richard Cypher, who discovers he is the True Seeker, chosen to free the world from the evil sorcerer king Darken Rahl. He fights with the mystic confessor and woman warrior Kahlan Amnell and the sorcerer Zed to fulfill his destiny.

In this episode, Richard and Kahlan find everyone dead at a rebel camp deep within D'Haran territory. When they come upon a battle between rebels and D'Harans, Carver Dunn is captured and confessed by Kahlan. He reveals that there is a D'Haran base near the village of Grayson. Seeker Richard Cypher goes to the fort in Carver's stead and convinces the captain and his men that Carver is a wily fighter, clever spy, great tracker, and devoted D'Haran.

Meanwhile, back in the rebel camp, Carver admits to Kahlan that he did terrible things during the war, but that he had been drafted and really hated the military. He was a cook before he was conscripted, and would rather return to that work. He makes blackberry tarts for Kahlan, but the other rebels are distrustful of him.

The D'Haran captain takes Richard with him to Grayson where his own family lives and Richard begins to realize that all the D'Harans are not mindless thugs living only to do Darken Rahl's evil work. When they return to the fort, another soldier says he knew Carver Dunn at another post and Richard is not him. Richard bluffs through, but doubts are planted. He learns that a shipment of weapons is coming through rebel territory, and frees a rebel prisoner to go back to the camp and organize a raid on the supply train.

The rebels sieze the weapons and plan an attack on Grayson. The escaped prisoner, who is the brother of the rebel leader, is even more wary of Carver than the others. The brothers attack Carver and none of the rebels will come to his aid, despite Kahlan's pleas for help. He dies in her arms.

At the D'Haran fort, a messenger reports that Carver Dunn's wife has arrived. Richard reluctantly goes to meet her, and is amazed that the woman waiting for him is Kahlan. She tells him of the rebels' plans to attack the village, and he sets off with the D'Haran troops to stop the attack. During the battle, he must fight his new friend the captain in single combat. When he has him at the point of the Sword of Truth he decides to let him live, telling him to go home to his family.

MOONLIGHT AND ALL CHARACTERS ARE THE PROPERTY OF WARNER BROS. TELEVISION

MOONLIGHT: NO SUCH THING AS VAMPIRES (2007) (DANIEL)

Dean guest stars in the pilot episode of Moonlight as Daniel, the graduate assistant for Professor Christian Ellis's vampire mythology class.

Moonlight follows the adventures of Mick St. John, a vampire who's been existing in Los Angeles since the mid-1940s, when his bride Coraline made him undead. He works as a private detective, handling the tough, mysterious cases that the police can't. The Los Angeles setting, frequent night time action, and Mick's narration combine to lend a romantic, film noir quality to the proceedings.

In this first episode, Mick becomes involved in the murder of a young woman found dead in a fountain, her body wrapped in pink drapery and two puncture wounds in her neck. At the scene, Mick meets reporter Beth Turner. Flashbacks begin to tell the story of how he first met Beth more than 20 years ago. Coraline had kidnapped the little girl to try to create a family with Mick, but he wanted no part of her or her undead existence.

The murder victim is identified as a student in Prof. Ellis's vampire mythology class, and the professor becomes the prime suspect in the case. At the funeral, unfortunately held, as all funerals are, during the day, Mick and Beth see Daniel defend Dr. Ellis from another student's attack. As they share information about the case, Beth begins to find Mick strangely familiar.

Meanwhile, Mick's friend and fellow vampire Josef Konstantin insists that Mick find the vampire-copycat killer before the public has time to become aware of the real vampires living in their midst. Josef is over 400 years old and has created a fabulous fortune over that time. He exists on live blood, taken from his groupies, unlike Mick, who gets his food supply from his friend Guillermo at the morgue.

Beth interviews Chloe, another student in the mythology class, at the diner where she works and learns that Ellis believes that vampires exist and that he is one of them. Beth determines to crash his class, and soon gets herself invited to a special study session. Wearing a wire to the meeting, she follows Daniel to the basement of a campus building where the session is just breaking up. Ellis assures her she is right on time and proceeds to show her how they can share their vital energy. When he discovers the wire, Beth flees for her life. Finding Daniel waiting outside the building, she goes with him to find a phone.

Mick goes to the diner and finds Chloe dead, stabbed and enrobed just like the first victim. He can smell the killer and takes off to find Beth at the college. By the time he arrives, Ellis is alone, and is amazed to find a real vampire attacking him! Mick's teeth turn into fangs and his eyes become pinpoints as he fiercely questions Ellis about Beth. As he leaves, he flings the hapless vampire wannabe across the room.

Following the scent, Mick now pursues Beth and Daniel, who has his own agenda. He explains to the drugged Beth that Professor Ellis has been distracted by his desire for the young women in his class. He has been removing these distractions so Ellis can fulfill his true destiny. Before he can describe this destiny, Mick is upon them. As he grabs for Daniel, the car swerves down the street, finally crashing into a utility pole. Mick is thrown to the pavement, but manages to pull himself together in time to prevent Daniel from stabbing Beth. Daniel is shocked to see that Mick is unaffected by his knife, but only for a moment until Mick flings him up against the utility pole. He crashes down into the car windshield as Mick pulls Beth from the car and they make their escape.

Later, Beth thanks Mick for saving her, and finally remembers why he seems so familiar. He is so startled by her embrace that he barely knows what to do, but finally puts his arms gently around her and holds her close.

American astronaut John Crighton has passed through a wormhole in space and has joined a motley crew of escaped prisoners and defectors aboard the living Leviathan ship Moya. Several factions in this distant part of the universe have been trying to get from him the secret of wormholes, which allow instant passage through space and time, including the Peacekeeper-Scarran hybrid Scorpius. Peacekeepers are very like humans, but the Scarrans are large reptilian creatures who rule a vast empire by force.

Moya's crew travel to Katratzi, a Scarran base where Scorpius is being tortured for wormhole information. The base is home to both Kalish and Charrid forces - underlings for the Scarrans. The crew plans to incite a confrontation between these two contingents, hoping this diversion will allow them to free Scorpius, and prevent wormhole knowledge from falling into Scarran hands.

Dean's character Zukash is a member of the Kalish species. The Kalish live mostly in Scarran-controlled space, and they hate the Scarrans. Zukash is a freedom fighter in the war against the Scarrans, undercover on Katratzi, where the Kalish are technicians.

The Kalish appear quite human, but have several physiological differences. Kalish can go for long periods without food, due to their efficient metabolism. If one of their appendages is severed, the tissue is capable of rebonding without complex surgery. They cannot tolerate translator microbes, so while others can instantly understand Kalish, they must learn languages before they can understand others.

Perhaps most remarkably, Kalish are capable of "shifting their gravity center," which allows them to walk on walls and ceilings!

When the Moya crew get to Katratzi, John Crighton crashes a meeting between Peacekeeper Commandant Grayza and Scarran Emperor Staleek. He offers wormhole knowledge to the highest bidder, meanwhile protecting himself and his crew with a portable nuclear bomb strapped to his person.

The Moya crew divide to work the different factions on Katratzi against each other, and Sikozu approaches her fellow Kalish. When Zukash demands on behalf of his superiors her background credentials, she reveals that she is a bioloid, a partly synthetic being. In return, Zukash admits he too is a bioloid, the only member of the resistance who has penetrated the system to this posting on Katratzi. Sikozu asks for his help creating a disturbance to cover their escape.

While the other Moya crew members work to disrupt the workings of the station, Zukash reveals that the Scarrans keep a vast underground nursery for special flowers that they must eat. He has stolen the code for the access elevator from the Charrids who guard it, and Sikozu passes it on to Crighton.

When the breech of the secret nursery is discovered, the Charrids and the Kalish blame each other, and a fight breaks out. The Kalish use their gravity shifting ability to fire on the Charrids from above as the Scarrans try to restore order. In the confusion, Zukash saves Sikozu from a Charrid attacker, and she runs to meet her friends to escape back to Moya.

Meanwhile, Crighton and Aeryn have forced the Scarrans to surrender Scorpius, who has been badly injured by their torturous interrogations. As the Moya crew gather at their shuttle craft, Scorpius suddenly attacks Crighton, preventing their escape.

To be continued....

After thwarting Crichton's escape plan, Scorpius denies that he's a Scarran spy, and demands Crichton's help to destroy the Scarran flowers - flowers that chemically augment the Scarrans' naturally limited intelligence.

Sikozu finds Zukash and asks for his help in getting the new access key to the elevator to the underground nursery. She acknowledges that it will be very dangerous, but insists that destroying the flowers will help defeat the Scarrans. Meanwhile, Crighton sends Rygel and Noranti to find their old crewfellow Stark, who has been replicated with an evil bioloid.

The crew highjack the elevator, and as Sikozu desperately tries to over-ride the security code, Zukash runs up with the stolen access key. Just as he hands it over, he is shot dead by the Scarrans. A distraught Sikozu manages to get the crew down to the nursery, where Scorpius is dismayed to find that the mother plant is protected by a force field.

When Scarran guards approach, Sikozu reveals that she has been genetically engineered to emit radiation that is fatal to Scarrans. The crew try drill the elevator to the surface, but end up in the main conference room of Katratzi. Out of options, Crighton drops his nuclear bomb down the shaft to the nursery. The elevator chamber protects the crew, but Katratzi is destroyed.

MDA-Medical Defence Australia was named Best TV Drama at the 2003 Australian Film Institute's award ceremony November 22.

MDA episode 34, Judgement Day, premiered Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at 9:30pm on ABC. Episode 35, St. Crispin's Day aired on Wednesday, October 15.

MDA - Medical Defence Australia - premiered on Australia's ABC network in 2002 and ran for two seasons, airing at 9:30pm on Wednesdays.

MDA began airing on Canadian TV's Showcase Channel in mid-2004; Dean's two episodes aired during October.

MDA: JUDGEMENT DAY, ST. CRISPIN'S DAY (2003) (PETER JARMAN)

Enter the world of Medical Defence Australia, a medico-legal organisation that exists to defend doctors and where necessary compensate patients. All cases at MDA combine elements of law and medicine so each case is managed by a doctor and a lawyer who agree on how to proceed. It's a unique organisation that delves into morally complex and emotion filled relationships between doctors and patients.

Dean guest stars as Peter Jarman in a two-part story beginnning in the episode Judgement Day. Peter, who can't walk, needs risky spinal surgery to restore damaged parts of his spine. The story includes legal and ethical aspects of stem cell research in medical treatment.

MDA attorney Happy Henderson and surgeon Simon Lloyd are dismayed when the MDA Board refuses to indemnify neurosurgeon Tim Hawthorne 100% for the experimental spinal surgery. MDA's contract with their reinsurer excludes it. But can MDA persuade the reinsurer to make an exception? It seems the insurance company headman is in Australia and is a rugby fan. If only they could find two tickets for the sold-out World Cup game. While paraplegic patient Peter Jarman waits hopefully in hospital, Happy and Simon coach a manic Tim for his "presentation" to the reinsurer.

MDA staffer Layla finally scores the World Cup tickets, but from a scalper in a pub. There goes the next year's petty cash. Tim's presentation goes well, but it's Happy who convinces the reinsurer to cover the operation.

NOTE: In real life, the 2003 Rugby World Cup competition opened in Australia on October 10 with twenty teams from around the world (including, of course, New Zealand). The All-Blacks lost to host Australia in the semifinal match on November 15, ending up third, and England beat Australia for the championship in a thrilling extra-time match on November 22.

The MDA story continues in the episode St. Crispin's Day. Following the surgery, Peter Jarman is suffering extreme post-operative pain and Richard Savage makes a claim for damages. Happy Henderson goes to the aid of neurosurgeon Tim Hawthorne. He negotiates with Richard and is cleverly able to contain the spinal surgery damages and share them with the hospital and the biotech company involved in the surgery. Tim's program is saved, but Peter will probably never be able to work again because of chronic pain.

Two young warriors, Bruno and Darek, whose tribes are fighting one another start to battle among a circle of stones. In the end, Bruno is apparently dead, having fallen down the side of a cliff.

Meanwhile, Will is trying to mediate between the tribes, hoping they can find peace. When a map showing Bruno's parents where Bruno's body lies comes to Will's attention, the tribe can only believe that Darek has killed their leader's son. The leader of the tribe gives Will twenty-four hours to find Darek and figure out what happened the night Bruno died.

Will soon finds Darek, who was injured in the fight and is now sick. Fearing for Darek's life, Will takes him back to the enemy tribe. After Darek recovers, he is made to stand trial for Bruno's murder.

Will and his group of friends try to determine what happened by going to investigate the circle of stones where the fight took place. They soon discover that the circle is magical, causing Will to switch bodies with one of his friends. Thus they know that Darek was in Bruno's body and Bruno is in Darek's body. Just as "Darek" is about to be hanged, having been found guilty of murdering "Bruno", the truth is revealed.

"A woman moves to a small town to take a job as a manicurist. Being lonely she befriends a strange man who claims to be dead."

Dean plays one of a group of teenage Halloween partygoers in this episode of the sci-fi/fantasy series. The kids approach the "dead" man who still walks around their small town and taunt him, asking him to come to their party to scare them. When he asks why, the only reason they can give is that it's Halloween, and they run off. Dean, disguised in gruesome ghoulish make up and costume, is one of the two main kids who speak to the man.
