YOUNG HERCULES: THE SERIES

MEDEA CULPA (1998) (YOUNG IOLAUS)

In which Hercules, Iolaus, and Jason meet a girl and fight a monster. Entirely YH, except for very short brackets in the present.

Hercules throws a chariot race with Jason to avoid running over a little girl whose home has been destroyed by a monstrous Gidra. As they search for the monster, Iolaus uses his "gift" to suss out a naked girl by a lake. Hercules and Jason talk her out of cutting Iolaus's throat, and she joins their quest. Medea and Hercules immediately hit it off, leaving Iolaus and Jason far behind. Medea demonstrates her special healing powers at another village that has been attacked by the Gidra.

The group takes ship, and Hercules and Medea sleep on deck. Below, Iolaus tells the restless Jason to get over it, this time Hercules has the strength and the girl. But innocent Hercules spurns Medea's advances.

Next morning, she latches on to Jason. In a blatant case of the blind leading the blind, Iolaus tries to explain girls to clueless Hercules. After Hercules beats up Jason in a fit of jealousy, Iolaus gives him a piece of his mind, telling Herc he's the best person he knows, and that he, Iolaus, is a better person just for knowing him.

Meanwhile, Medea is shown to be a tool of Hera, who appears to her as the little girl from the chariot race. Hera blasts Jason with divine fire, but Medea heals him.

Iolaus and Hercules fight the two-headed, poison-tailed, self-regenerating Gidra, eventually killing it with Jason's help. Hera vaporizes Medea, and the guys reconcile their friendship.

In which Hercules reunites a young man and his long-lost sister.

Amazons attack a village. They kill the parents of a girl and boy, kidnap the girl, and blind the boy.

13 years later, Hercules rescues a blind young man from slavers. Ruun says he only wants to find his sister. Hercules and Ruun meet Ephany and her centaur son Xenon at the dock, and Ruun swears vengeance against all Amazons. On shipboard, Hercules tells Ruun the Amazons must have adopted his sister. Ruun is not happy to hear it.

Meanwhile, two young Amazons go into battle, and one is killed.

Hercules and Ruun reach his native village, where Ruun vividly recalls his parents' death. When they go to help defend a nearby village from Amazons. Ruun is nearly killed by a young Amazon, but is saved by Hercules, who recognizes the tattoo on her hand as identical to Ruun's.

Hercules arranges a meeting between Siri and Ruun, but she leads a force and captures the two men. Mayem, the Amazon leader, challenges Hercules to a duel. Siri confronts Ruun, denying that he is her brother. Mayem is killed in the duel, fought on a grid work over a huge fire. Siri threatens to kill Ruun, but Hercules reconciles them, and they return to their native village, where Siri finally faces the truth.

YOUNG HERCULES: THE SERIES

REGRETS...I'VE HAD A FEW (1997) (YOUNG IOLAUS)

In which Hercules remembers the first time he met Death. This episode is half "present" and half Young Hercules flashback.

Hercules sees Death in the person of Celesta. She's come to Earth to claim his friend Jaris. Hercules remembers when he first met both Celesta and Jaris.

YH: In a fight outside Cheiron's Academy Hercules kills Bartoc, a gang initiate. He takes the body back to Bartoc's father Nehemiah and little brother Jaris, who is about 12.

Meanwhile, Iolaus scopes out the gang and is captured. He engages in cocky banter while being beaten up, but learns that the gang plans to raid the farm. Iolaus escapes and arrives at the farm to warn Hercules during Bartoc's funeral. He realizes Hercules has not revealed the circumstances of Bartoc's death, but has let the father and brother believe he was Bartoc's friend.

Iolaus argues with Hercules to tell the truth, which he finally does just as the gang approaches to attack the farm. There's a big fight, and Hercules and the gang leader fight it out amidst clouds of testosterone. Hercules rebuilds Bartoc's tree house for Jaris as a parting gesture of friendship.

Meanwhile, he can do nothing to stop Celesta, and after a one-day reprieve, the adult Jaris dies.

THE GAUNTLET (1995) (ILORAN)

In which Hercules and his cousin Iloran fight Xena's army.

Hercules' young cousin Iloran drafts him to defend his village from Xena's army. On the way, they pass other villages destroyed by the marauders.

Meanwhile, Xena captures Salmoneus and saves a baby from the carnage, causing a falling out with Darphus, her second-in-command. She survives a gauntlet and leaves the army to fight on her own.

On the road Iloran is shot in the shoulder by Spiros, who thinks he and Hercules are part of Xena's army. Hercules patches up Iloran and explains the situation. They follow the army, picking up Salmoneus on the way.

Xena confronts Hercules, and they fight. Iloran runs to Hercules' defense and is clocked by Xena. Hercules spares Xena's life, but she refuses to join his fight. Hercules and his three companions ambush a troop of Darphus' army who had planned to ambush them.

Finally, they reach Iloran's village and set up a defense of booby traps and ambushes. The fight is going against them when Xena joins in on their side. She kills Darphus and his army flees. Spiros discovers that the baby Xena saved is his son.
